Background
Born to a mid-level transport designer mother and a stay-at-home dad, Taija was comfortably in the middle class of a place like Kuat. Her childhood was not marked by special training, advanced lessons on controlling her mind, or anything that would point to her being special. A typical girl growing up there, she did dream bigger than most, though. Despite average grades, she decided to take her hand at getting involved with the Empire. After all, how bad could they actually be? Right? Her entrance exams went well enough until she got to her mechanical aptitude. Then they went much better.
Steadfast dedication to the Empire eventually took her to the Imperial Naval Academy where she learned the truth of what it meant to be Kuati. Used to the women running the show, Navy life at the Academy was a shock considering just how few females there actually were. Derided and challenged at every turn, Taija just became more determined to show them just how bad a Kuati woman could make them eat their words. And she did. She finished third in her class and was assigned immediately to TIE's. Three years later she had a squadron. Another three years: a wing. At the age of 32, with an outstanding career and hundreds of kills to her credit, it was undeniable that this woman had proven her ability to 'hang with the boys'. She was promoted to Group Captain and sent to the Star Dreadnought 'Sovereign' as the new chief of air operations and CAG.
Then, rather suddenly, Havilland defected away during The Decay to help Ian "Krieg" Inrokana help try to kick the Empire to the curb. It was never explained why and those who knew her were as shocked as anyone could have been - except those who left with her. After Krieg faked his death Taija ordered the entire defection group to scatter to the wind. Left with no options and a mark on her head for Treason to the Empire, the once decorated officer went to ground. She couldn't go home because the Empire would look for her there. "Ground" happened to be anywhere she could find that wasn't occupied by Stormtroopers. For two years she has gone under alias names and identifications, rarely spending more than a few days in any particular location. She's made her way through taking merc and bounty jobs - typically illegal ones. Though a recent run-in with an old friend has proven to be the change in the wind that she was hoping for. It has set her course in an unexpected direction and could be taking her and her prior comrades someplace they likely never anticipated. Someplace possibly more ferocious and aggressively lethal than any they have faced before. Its one thing to slap the face of the Empire. Its another to take flamethrowers to every gang-claimed bridge in town and watch them burn.
"Save your kicks for the Empire's ass, Lieutenant. We're going to be flying some shit-hot frames in some shit-hot circumstances. What you are to do now is take twenty-four hours. Get your current life squared away, say your goodbyes and walk away from it into the black. We are going deep this time, son. The Empire knew who we were. This time the scum out there is going to have no idea what the hell is hitting it."

Family
Taija has a son and daughter as well as a husband, all living on Kuat in the city of Inviere. Her son, Calleb, is the eldest at fifteen and her daughter, Jessa, is 13. Her husband, Jol'dan, is a stay at home father who recently took up college classes again to work towards a business degree. Taija's mother and father live across town, both are retired and her mother is supporting them off an excellent pension. They have helped raise Calleb and Jessa during the long stretches where Taj has been away on deployments - which are responsible for straining the family as it has.
